The Science of Autistic Brains

Can the Brain ever be "explained" by Science?

I'm reading a book by Temple Grandin called "The Autistic Brain".

Apart from feeling like she has written my life story / a book about how "my" brain works 🤯🤯🤯...

There are some amazing facts and explanations in the book about how the Autistic Brain works!

Above is the brain MRI of Autistic Temple Grandin showing her ability to process what is seen and what is heard (in purple) compared to a neurotypical brain (aqua)

For context, when Grandin was a little girl, she was diagnosed as "retarded" and her mother was told she would end up in an institution.

She is now one of the leading pioneers of understanding Autism

The picture above shows just how much information we are processing and how much stimuli our brains are receiving ALL THE TIME!!!

Is it any wonder then, that sometimes we might...

🧠 react in a non appropriate way?

🧠 need down time to rest our brains?

🧠 display situational mutism when we are overwhelmed?

We should celebrate our amazing brains and also respect their needs by learning to speak up and ask for help or support when we need it 💓
